Going Green

It just so happened that all my finished projects in the last week were green.

The shawl from the mystery lace weight yarn is done I even did a kind of average job of blocking it so you can see the shape it is meant to be. It probably wasn't one of my best ideas to do a whole bunch on the same day as I ran out of floor space really quickly.

Here's a close up of the diamond pattern on the body of the shawl and a gratuitous shot of my new sock project in the yarn I picked up at Unwind Craft Cafe.

An out of focus, but the best I could manage shot of the shawl draped over my pink shirt. The design really is pretty. 

Unfortunately there is still enough of the yarn left to make another shawl so I'll be casting that on within the next week, I don't want my hands to forget how to work with this slippery slidey yarn and I really want it used up.

Next finish was the Vivien Bolero that I have been working on intermittently since November, I started this project on my plane ride. More yarn that refuses to be used up, gotta be something about green yarn.

I chose this project to use the yarn that was left over from my tunic (which I finished 2 years ago and wear a lot), as I used a different yarn to that specified in the pattern I calculated required yardage and brought the requisite number in my preferred yarn. Obviously someone can't count because I had more than half of the yarn left over when I finished my tunic.

The bolero front above and the back below, a very clever design that is worked in one piece so there were just a few tails to weave in at the end. (More sad photography)

The collar sits down but I have it up here so you can see the pretty pattern on the back.

This bolero did not use all of the remaining yarn - there is still one 50g ball left!

I knitted up this dragonfly washcloth on Saturday night just to use up some of the leftover bits and I'm thinking there may be a couple more from that last ball.

Why will the green yarn just not be gone?

Holiday Crafting

The relaxed pace of this time of the year (read not much happening after all the busyness of the past few weeks) means time for finishing some of the projects which have been waiting in the wings for their turn.

First up I finished the second of the brown Czarina's Lace anklets.

I am happy they are almost a pair - I'll be keeping them for me because I omitted a couple of rows on the second one, it wont interfere with their ability to keep my feet warm next time it's cold.

I was working on these while at the Old Peoples on Christmas Day and got some orders from family members - I should have just gone ahead and made this Christmas a sock fest.

More socks in my near future, starting with the second blue Davidson Road sock for The Father.

Both the Czarinas lace and Davidson Road patterns are from Knitting Knee Highs by Barb Brown.

While Ms16 was staying last weekend she did a little knitting - making this cup cosy.

She was very happy with her finished project.

I managed to hook up this wash cloth and jar cosy in the days before Christmas.

They were added to some gifts.

Almost...

but not quite.

I just needed to start something new first.

A little green knitting with the softest bamboo thread.

Late last week I went visiting a few yarn stores looking for something to fill the colour gap in the incomplete challenge project. I got to pat lots of lovely yarns most of which I successfully left where they were - I now know where to go for an excellent selection!

My mission was successful though I found something with the right tones in the same ply so I just had to start the next bit to ensure it fit in nicely - I'm very happy with the match.

And the almost done challenge from a very different angle.

Okay so now it's time for a little social crafting, I wonder what I will work on there?

Hexie Clean

This week has been a lot about waiting, so I needed a nice easy project which was easy to pick up and put down at a moments notice.

Out to the warehouse for a little inspiration, what I found there was some cotton yarn left from a project completed some time ago! Perfect as I told the mother I would make her a dishcloth months ago and hadn't done it yet - Now I have just one or two??

Ok - make that five.

These are super easy and the patten is a free one on the Lion Brand yarns website, I adjusted the rows as my thread was finer than the one used in the original, but the pattern clearly states 'correct guage not essential for this project'. Yay.

More waiting coming up next week and plenty more supplies in the warehouse - I'm thinking there maybe one or two of these in the Christmas gift box very soon!
