Remembering...

Thinking that I wanted to stitch at FNWF last night and dismissing all the new projects as requiring too much preparation I went in search of a resting project that I could just pick up and stitch.
At the very bottom of the pile was this quilt which I started early in 2008 the blocks are mostly machine pieced, though there are a couple that were stitched by hand. I duly stitched the top together and even started hand quilting it before I lost interest and moved on to  brighter and shinier projects.
I put some stitches in it last night, though as I am just quilting around the shapes in matching thread it is not obvious in the photo's.
In this year of finishing more than I start, this quilt may actually be completed.

There was a little woolly action too but you don't need to see another half finished sock. As I got to knit today at my local knitting group there may just be a finish this week.

Now I'm off to see what everybody else was working on last night.
Thanks to Cheryll for hosting.

Hope your day is sunny.

Pretty pinwheels...

is Finished.

I sewed the binding down this week while the weather was cool and the quilt cosy.

Part one of the Reversible Wrap is off the needles and I sewed up the first sleeve.

Now to finish part two and start part three.

Hope the sun is shining your corner today.

Getting closer

to the finish line that is.

I used this pretty thread for the quilting.

A shot from the back - the backing is a soft twill fabric that was donated to the stash, perfect for this project.

No surprises here, almost straight line quilting in the ditch on the diagonal.

Today I prepared and sewed the binding on.
It's all trimmed now waiting for hand stitching binding down.

The Katya sock is almost done also.
Just one more pattern repeat before the toe shaping. Luckily the weather is still cool enough for woollen socks.

A great way to start a new week.

Happy creating.

Cushion and progress

As the cushion has now landed at Chantell's home I can show what I made.

Here is the front...

and the back.

The request was for pink, yellow and grey for a child's room.
I put a pocket on the back which I then split in two - one for the cheeky angel who tagged along and the other for keeping special/secret things.

Both Chantell and her daughter are happy with the cushion. Yay.

Thanks to Sue for hosting this fun swap.

For my crafty break - I gathered some supplies.

(calorie free chocolates)

Some pretty scraps - just right for a new project.

Then I pulled out the pinwheel quilt top that I made at Easter.
I spent this afternoon basting this one, I have visions of putting my machine to work quilting tomorrow.

The needles have still been clicking - this piece of the wrap is growing nicely and my sock has progressed to the heel.

Both yesterday and today I ventured out for a walk to the beach.
Yesterday was hot and windy, and today I managed to get there and back between showers.
The sky sure was changing quickly today - I could watch those clouds for hours.

Hope the sun shines on your week - and may the best team win!

Coming in, Going out...

not just me!

My cushion for the Quilted Hugs cushion swap is winging its way to a new home.

(I hope it arrives safely soon.)

As is the Scrapped Quilt

and a co-ordinating Laundry Bag.

(Just realised I had not shown them in full here.)

Today I recieved the yarn to complete my Katya sock - now I need to get back to it.
Oh, you noticed that the Brick colour came with friends - Wild Barley which is a very soft green and Purple Storm - no further description required all Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 4 ply.

I have been coming and going since Thursday when I got an urgent call from a previous employer to help with a short term project, I still had to meet my afternoon commitments which required some juggling. Fortunately the work is now taken care of and after tomorrow's lesson I should get the four days off I thought I was having last week.
I am looking forward to some uninterrupted time in my creative space.
Hope your week is sunny and not too busy.

Scrapped...

is finished - done and dusted!

It's a while since I showed it here - like a couple of months but I have been working on it slowly.
(everybody needs a little sewing snack)
A week ago I decided it was time to clear the table and baste this quilt.

Every day before work last week, (I am currently working afternoons only), I managed to do some quilting on this so yesterday it was time for binding.
As you can see here the back is almost as scrappy as the front,

and the stripey binding is just perfect.

If the wind ever stops blowing a gale I may get it outside for a full length shot.

While I used up lots of scraps on this one I don't see any difference in the scrap bucket - in fact I think it is fuller now than at the beginning. How does that work?

This is another quilt for an Aussie Hero.

Hope the sun is shining in your creative space today.

Socking along

Still knitting socks.
I'm using my new book - 'Socks a la Carte' and Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 4 ply in Colour Brick.
The patterns I chose for my sock are the Oh Baby cuff, which is a very cute mini cable created using a clever, new to me technique and the leg is Eyes on you, while there is an error in this pattern I decided not to unravel as I quite like the way it looks like this.
The pattern does not move around the sock, it just looks that way in this picture because I tried to sit it flat while the knitting is on 3 needles.
My sock is resting on my newly quilted project I started last weekend, it is small so I may be finished soon, or not if the weather stays this cold for the remainder of the week.
There has been some reading other than the professional kind but I didn't get a picture of the book - it is 'Metro Winds' a collection of short stories by Isobel Carmody. Written with her usual fantasy slant, where things are not as they at first seem. Both entertaining and thought provoking.
Yarning along over here.

Sleep In!!

I mean Sew In -

Last night was Friday Night Sew In hosted by Heidi and Bobbi - but as my title suggests there was way more sleeping than sewing. In fact not one stitch was sewn.
There was a little cutting for some new projects - yes, that is plural. More than one project started with the Melbourne and Sydney prints. I really wanted to sew but  knew that would have ended in disaster or at least  a lot of unsewing last night.

I did manage to knit a couple of stripes on the latest project, taking things nice and slow on this one.

Hope there was some sewing action at your place.

Traveller quilt

Finished!

The top

Folded

The back- it is more blue than it looks in this picture.

I love the way this quilt came together and the way it looks finished - fortunately I included the label as part of the backing or I may just have been tempted to reassign its purpose to Me.
Guess I just need to pick new fabrics and start another one.
I made a scrap binding from the leftovers of the fabrics I used on the front - perfect in every way - no leftovers to ponder.

So that is part of the M's fuelled weekend crafting frenzy. The knitting project is up to the interesting part - keeping track of hundreds of stitches. I'll show some pics soon.
Hope your week is colourful.

Finished

The puzzle - the artist is Tom Antonishak. This certainly was a challenging puzzle - 1000 pieces in a space approximately the same as an A3 page.

Ducks and Dogs has had a wash and is ready to be posted if I can find the right size box.

Today I made a 'matching' laundry bag - these will be packed together and sent off for an Aussie Hero. Thanks to Jan-Marie for coordinating this project.

Something else I have been playing with today.

I am remembering what it is like to work with flimsy fabric and I need to be patient and take care if I am to be successful. I'll show when I'm done no matter what.

The sunshine was most welcome this weekend and I enjoyed getting out in it.
Hope your weekend has included some of the things you love.

Weekend Sewing

Friday night was all about looking for the table under all the discarded fabric, half finished projects, magazines and other inspiration which had collected there.

No before shots, I was too busy getting into action to take photo's, this one shows where I was up to on Saturday morning.

I managed to finish the clean up before I headed out to the library for Saturday knitting group - where I did some crochet.

This weekend's main project was to get this quilt put together. I had already completed the top and backing last month. I had even prepared the binding, no excuses why this little quilt could not be completed. Oh, and Saturday's wet weather was so conducive of inside activity.

Basting was completed in the afternoon, sure I like the old fashioned big stitch method.

Snacks and coffee essential for consistent progress.

The evening was spent with Nomee hard at work quilting simple straight lines in the ditch on the horizontal and diagonally across the squares.

Completed on Sunday morning after a long rest.

Trimmed and bound after lunch. The binding is machine sewn both sides.

Just waiting for a label.

Multicoloured spots with burgundy surrounds happy little project for taking along.

After last weeks little cross stitch project I decided to start another one, a perfect project for evenings in.

Hope your weekend was spent in a happy dry place.

Beautiful

With Annie all stitched up I chose some fabrics

And indulged a little

Speed sewing and the top was complete.

A little quilting on a little quilt

And bound all ready for Miss1.

I even found this little quilt label that I received when I participated in the recent Fabric Frolic which was perfect for this project.

The party was a celebration of style.

Hope your weekend was just as sweet.
