Goodbye August

Looking at my pictures from this month I can see that I was too busy starting things and trying out ideas to actually focus on any of my projects.

There was one lonely finish, the stripey socks from the gifted yarn a bit of a no brainer project as the yarn did most of the work. Just what I needed while the germs were residing.

 Let me say making socks for someone with small feet is a breeze (and maybe why I feel like the socks for the Father are taking forever, luckily for me I won't be seeing him this weekend)

I have finished one of the blue socks, but getting a photo is proving a challenge this week. One purple sock is three quarters done and one burgundy sock is almost half way. They will all get their partners next month.

I did try a little baking last weekend after Fiona published a recipe for Ginger cake, I baked mine in my muffin tray and they were delicious, I may even have waited for them to cool before the taste testing began, Delicious.

'Digging to America' by Anne Tyler was recommended by a friend. While the subject matter centres on family issues and intercountry adoption, the text is written in a thought provoking and entertaining way. I enjoyed reading this book and stayed awake way too late turning the pages.

'The Children' by Edith Wharton will be my next book. I haven't read the first page yet but I have read a lot about this author's life and writing. An adventure awaits.

FNWF The late report..

I spent my Friday night working on these two projects.

Diagonal rib socks and Maybelle flower blocks

Added another six flower blocks to the stack.

This is the second of the socks, the one that got delayed due to a lost needle and while I have another set in this size I decided to pop into the oppy where I purchased them this week. Sure enough there were a couple more hiding in the bottom of the container, not a whole set but a couple of spares for the grand sum of 50c. Yay.

A year of socks

Nothing new here, just realised this week that it is a year since I cast on the first sock and decided to collect them together to see what they looked like.

Now you know why there has been a lot of posts about knitting socks - an average of 3 socks a month for a whole year! There will be more socks in the future, I still have some family requests to fill which is probably just as well, as I was gifted two more skeins of yarn for sock knitting this week.

7 Day socks

I set myself a challenge last week after the Mother asked if the socks were ready when I hadn't started. Could I complete a pair in a week?

Obviously I can if I need to!

Lots of nice blocks to try while I give the needles a break and plan the next project which may or may not be socks.

I am very pleased with the appearance of autumn here, finally and had a refreshing walk in the rain early today.

There is a little quilting going on in the background but not so much as to be photo worthy.

Rushing...

does not always equal quicker!

The mother had ordered a pair of socks for gifting towards the end of this month, then asks if they are ready this past Tuesday - well no, not even started! Fortunately I had a) finished knitting the last pair (they're still waiting for the ends to be woven in), and b) made a decision about pattern and yarn (there wasn't enough of my first choice of yarn) so I cast on pronto.

A conservative pattern but interesting enough to keep me knitting round and round.

Making good progress and then this - Mess!

One went the wrong way, it took a while to get the stitches back in order again, but I am once again heading the right direction.

Using my favourite Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 4 ply in the purple storm colour way - the sky was a very similar colour earlier today when it was actually looking like Autumn is putting in an appearance in this part of the world.

The other news here is that the Mint and Citrus blanket is complete and waiting for weaving in of ends and a new previously resting crochet project has seen some progress this week.

His Socks...

 are finished.

You'd be guessing right if you thought I'd just been knitting for the past week, not much else happening lately.

 It is really difficult to model socks which are about two sizes too big for your own big feet. The complete toe part of the sock is beyond my toes so it is best to just show this part so you get the idea of what these will look like on. Maybe BD will model them for me when I gift them later this week.

I am joining other yarn crafters in some Stash Busting this year. 

I figure as I already intended to use yarn on hand for my projects this year I may as well have company.

This bucket is first up for my focus, that is only the top layer you can see, there is more underneath that.

These are all yarns suitable for sock making, among other things and as I have some sock requests to fulfil this is a perfect place to start.

I'm off to make a start on another sock.
